Recycled sunglasses are everywhere. But between recycled plastic and recycled neoprene, the choice isn't the same. Here's the breakdown.
Recycled plastic sunglasses
Many brands use rPET (bottles) or ocean-recovered plastic. It's a good approach, but the material is often re-melted and standardised: each pair looks like the next.
Recycled neoprene sunglasses
At OCENEO, we start from used surf wetsuits. The neoprene is ground, bound with a bio-based resin and moulded by hand in Arcachon. The result: a living material, unique shades, and real traceability (we know which wetsuit it came from).
Which to choose?
- For uniqueness: recycled neoprene, every pair is different.
- For traceability: an identifiable wetsuit rather than anonymous plastic.
- For optical quality: insist on UV400 cat. 3 lenses, like our bionylon lenses.
