Recycled plastic or recycled neoprene sunglasses: which to choose?

Recycled plastic or recycled neoprene sunglasses: differences, benefits and why upcycled neoprene gives unique frames.

Recycled sunglasses are everywhere. But between recycled plastic and recycled neoprene, the choice isn't the same. Here's the breakdown.

Recycled plastic sunglasses

Many brands use rPET (bottles) or ocean-recovered plastic. It's a good approach, but the material is often re-melted and standardised: each pair looks like the next.

Recycled neoprene sunglasses

At OCENEO, we start from used surf wetsuits. The neoprene is ground, bound with a bio-based resin and moulded by hand in Arcachon. The result: a living material, unique shades, and real traceability (we know which wetsuit it came from).

Which to choose?

  • For uniqueness: recycled neoprene, every pair is different.
  • For traceability: an identifiable wetsuit rather than anonymous plastic.
  • For optical quality: insist on UV400 cat. 3 lenses, like our bionylon lenses.
